POLLY Style, Mules and Spring-o-laTOR SHOES
Polly style mules as well as Spring-o-lator heels were made famous by pin-up girls, cocktail waitresses, burlesque dancers and starlets back in the early 1960's.
The star given most notoriety for wearing mules was Marilyn Monroe, although Jane Russell, her co-star, also loved wearing them. Polly shoes were launched in 1961 and became synonymous with the half metal/half wood heel that was deemed non breakable. These shoes are very similar to Polly shoes of the 1960s but are estimated to be manufactured during the 1980s. The shoes are extremely COMFORTABLE and easy to walk in.

    Comment
This vintage shoes has been carefully looked after and are in excellent condition for their age. They appear to have never been worn and the only flaw I can see is slight markings on insole of shoes not visible when worn.

    Lilli Ann
This famous American label was registered in 1933 by Adolf Schuman. Fabrics were specially imported from France and Italy, many made expressly for Lilli Ann. These fabrics were bought from mainly small textile companies that were in dire financial straits after the war and in danger of closing. As a result, Schuman was credited with saving many of these from financial ruin and in official recognition for his services was awarded Medals of Honour from both France and Italy.  On the other hand, the Lilli Ann customer knew that their suits, coats and dresses were made of the highest quality, hand-loomed fabric. Lilli Ann was also recognised for its innovative designs and quality construction. The label received the Gold Medal in Fashion Design, America's highest award in fashion. Nowadays, there is very high demand for this label from collectors and fashionistas from around the world. It must be said that this label is one of my all-time favourites as many of my customers know...:)

Eleanor Green arrived in the United States in the 1930s from her native Hungary, as a young 21 year old. Within a few weeks she was commissioned to make clothes for an exclusive dress salon. The dresses she made were so beautiful that the owner of the salon kept them for herself. A dress manufacturer, on hearing the story, promptly hired her himself. After a six month stint there, Eleanor finally started out on her own. Her motivation was to design couture quality dresses that were both easy to wear and affordable. The Californian Independent Magazine's article in 1960 said of Eleanor Green - "As an ambassador of fashion and goodwill, at home and abroad, Eleanor Green has no peer. For she creates feminine, flattering styles for every occasion for luncheon in town to cocktails at 7pm and makes them perfect for urban suburban living.  Her idea that high fashion. feminine styling, and popular price could be combined in the same dress - has won her plaudits of women everywhere who appreciate beauty." All the Eleanor Green dresses I've seen over the years have stood apart. Not only truly beautiful in their own right, they also feature unique design twists (such as the petals on this dress) along with superb tailoring. Truly a desirable piece.

    * Label by Shannon Rodgers

    Shannon Rodgers
Jerry Silverman and Shannon Rodgers were founders and partners in the Shannon Rodgers label, one of the fashion industry's most successful New York women's ready-to-wear firms of the second half of the 20th century. Rodgers had previously designed for the movies, starting with Cecil B. DeMille's The Warrior's Husband in 1932. Rodgers subsequently moved to Hollywood . Under contract to DeMille, Rodgers worked on movies including Cleopatra and The Adventures of Marco Polo. During the 1930s, Rodgers worked as a Hollywood studio artist under many of the most well-known designers of the day on films including Man Chases Woman, Vogues of 1938, Prisoner of Zenda, Marie Antoinette and The Barretts of Wimpole Street.

He later worked with Silverman at Martini, a dress company that adapted Parisian designs. On collaborating with Silverman, Rodgers continued this practice in their designs and became known for their Americanised versions of Balenciaga designs. They produced ismple, but elegant, dresses, often with a single decoration to add interest

In the early 1960s Rodgers began collecting historic costumes. Eventually the collection would grow to be one of the most important private costume collections in the United States. They closed their business around 1978. In 1983, they donated their large clothing collection to Kent State University, where it formed the basis of their museum’s collection of historical fashion.

    DIOR Diorling

In the late 1960's ,the "Diorling" line was introduced as a ready to wear label for Christian Dior. Named after the popular Dior fragrance launched in 1963, Diorling was created by Jorn Langberg, Artistic Director of Christian Dior London. The Diorling collection was designed in London from the 1960s to 1970s  and sold in upmarket department stores such as Harrods. The Diorling label was tailored to the London customer, but echoed many of the House of Dior's signature looks. Structured, ladylike silhouettes, and classic fabrics like tweed are themes that appear again and again in the collections, interpreted in modern ways. Bonwit Teller was a high quality ladies apparel store, founded by Paul J. Bonwit (1862-1939). Born in Germany, Bonwit moved to the US in 1883, working in New York and Nebraska before returning to New York and joining Rothschild & Company. By 1897, he became partners with Edmund D. Teller and by 1911 their store was located on 5th Avenue.

In the 1920s and 1930s they carried French models, including duplicates of Lanvin, Patou, Vionnet and Maggy Rouff, custom mades, and American-made garments including designs by Nettie Rosenstein. They were noted for the quality of their merchandise and the salaries they paid.

In 1930, Floyd Odlum brought needed capital to the company, and in 1934, Bonwit sold out to Odlum. His wife Hortense Odlum became the first woman president of a major department store in the US. Since 1946, Bonwit Teller was owned by the Hoving Corporation, Genesco, Allied Stores Corporation and finally the Hooker Corporation in 1987. In May 1990, Donald Trump demolished the Fifth Avenue store in order to make room for the Trump Tower, and the firm of Bonwit Teller no longer was in business. Jean Allen

Jean Allen was a London-based fashion house operating through the 1950s to the  High Street boom of the1970s. The company produced good quality fashion items. Sue Irving, an employee of the company in the 1970s recalled that “there was an actual Jean Allen who controlled the fashion house, at Cavendish Square London, she was married to a Mr Parry Billings who was instrumental in the day to day decisions. I only know this as I worked there in 1975. They used to source all their models from the London College of fashion, Mr Billings always said that their girls knew how to walk properly!, They had a factory in Italy where their designs came to life.”

    Comment

This is an early label Jean Allen dress and is in great condition for its age. The only issue I can see is some minor fraying at the hemline which can be re-stitched if desired. A beautiful Summer dress that can be dressed up or down

This unique coat boasts a very unusual design elements and is beautifully tailored. It is in great condition for its age. Although it has been used it does not appear to have any notable issues, maybe buttons could be secured a little more.

We are more than happy to answer any inquires about this item.
