Golden Ray was formed as an offshoot of the Australian Knitting Mills in 1923 to produce synthetic rayon lingerie and hosiery. The parent company was established in 1910.  Golden Ray was based in Richmond, Victoria and was active from the mid 1920s through to the late 1950s. The brand was marketed as 'tailored lingerie' - as they phrased it:  "for women who prefer luxurious simplicity to fussiness". The company often advertised alongside slenderized hosiery in national newspapers and popular local magazines, such as The Australian Womens Weekly. Items from this brand are considered rare Australian vintage, occasionally found in historical collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition for its age.

The only flaws are a small splattering of holes on the lining layer itself (an example pictured) but does not go through to the exterior and some minor bites on the outside that are difficult to spot.

Please note that these are vintage items that have had a previous life, so minor signs of wear are almost inevitable. These signs could include previous alterations, repairs, frays, minor stitch defects or small marks.

But please, don't expect the item to be in pristine unworn condition - unless otherwise stated.

We endeavour to show or describe obvious imperfections on each listing to assist in making an informed purchase.  You are welcome to ask any questions regarding sizing or condition prior to any purchase. We assure you of a prompt reply, including a re-assessment along with additional photography if required.

Comment

The listing is for the dress only and does not include any accessories that may have been photographed with the item.
