The Italian knitwear house Missoni has its roots in a small knitting business founded in 1953. For several years they sold sweaters to department stores, until 1958 when they started their own label. Their first collection was showcased in Milan that same year. The business quickly prospered, largely through the support of the fashion editor of Arianna Magazine, Anna Paiggi. By the early 1960s, the company had developed the designs that would make made them famous: flame stitches, wavy lines, and zigzags. The mid 1960s, saw their collections showcased in Paris and by the 1970s, they opened additional boutiques in Milan and New York. Missoni designs were championed in the US by Diana Vreeland, the highly influential editor of American Vogue.  Missoni reached the peak of its influence in the fashion world during this period. In the mid-1980s, a men’s line was started, along with a sports range. In 1996. the Missonis transferred control of the business to their three children. It remains a family business until this day.

Interestingly, on 13 September 2011, Target Stores offered low-cost variants of Missoni products both in their stores and on their website. Most lines were sold out within 24 hours. There were long queues outside stores and the Target website was quickly overloaded. Within hours, many items appeared on eBay at significantly higher prices.

No notable flaws that I can see - looks hardly worn.

Please note that these are vintage items that have been used and loved over the years, As such, they may display slight evidence of their age. Any notable flaws above and beyond this will be highlighted here.

Rare maxi dress from the most influential period of the Missoni Label - the 1970s. The rose floral design is also relatively rare, as Missoni specialised in geometrical designs. Please drop us a line if you require additional information about this listing.
