* Striking 1950s medium weight cotton ivory background dress
* Fabric design features pink cabbage roses with shaded green leaves
* Classic silhouette with cinched waist and full skirt
* Peasant style bodice with cap sleeves and gathered oval neckline with brown piping
* Bodice has built-in cummerbund corset waist in brown cotton with buttons
* Gathered skirt with built-in muslin petticoat for fullness
* Unlined bodice, serged seams with hand finished hem
* Scooped back with metal zipper

California Cottons
Very little information if available on the history of this label. Research indicates that the label probably originated in the United States but was heavily marketed within in the United Kingdom. During the 1950s and1960s however, the manufacturing was done exclusively in Britain, with the actual design work was outsourced to the United States . The clothing from this label is very eye catching and beautifully detailed. To the extent where California Cottons matches the quality and styling of Horrockses Fashions. While its history may be a little vague, its collectability is not. The label is highly prized today.(Thanks to Liz at Advantage in Vintage)
Condition
California Cottons make the most lovely dresses and this one is no exception. It is in excellent condition for its age. No notable flaws that I can see, other than the zipper has been restitched to give slightly more room. Can easily be returned to original state (Refer to last photograph). There is the tiniest amount of light pink colour bleed in a couple of places but honestly you would never notice unless pointed out. I had to really look for it. Definitely does not take anything away from the presentation, solely mentioned for accuracy. Please drop us a line if your require additional information about this listing.
