Serbin was founded in 1943 by Lewis Serbin in Cleveland, Ohio. A while later his brother, John joined the company and together they relocated to Miami, Florida in 1944. A factory was also acquired in Fayetteville, Tennessee to handle production. When this proved too small, a larger factory was built to handle the increased demand and to ensure that Serbin of Florida was entirely “Made in America”.  The company was particularly known for its sundresses, dresses with cardigans and sporting attire.  During the 1950s and 1960s, they were recognised as one of the largest clothing manufacturers in Florida. Muriel Ryan was the principal designer in the early years, and following her retirement, Lewis' own daughter Marianne took over the important role. Their garments were sold in major department stores, mail order catalogues, pro shops and specialty stores all over the United States. Following the death of the founder, Lew Serbin, the company ceased production in the 1970s.
