Description

* Vintage 1950s oatmeal coloured wool suit

* Classic silhouette with a fitted waist and straight skirt

* Jacket has long sleeves with turnover cuffs

* Front self-covered button closure

* Jacket has a cinched waist and asymmetrical pleated on left hip with a swag

* Swag is highlighted with pearl appliqués

* Skirt is straight with a kick pleat at rear

* Metal zipper fastens the skirt

* Suit is decorated with scattered rhinestones, with a heart-shaped feature on the left shoulder

* Jacket fully lined in pink crepe fabric, skirt is unlined

* Label reads L L Berger Inc, New York and Courtshire Fashion

L. L. Berger was a high-end Department Store based in Buffalo, New York. The family-owned store was established by Louis L. Berger in 1905. The company grew during the next two decades and opened its flagship store at 514 Main Street on 4 February 1929. The first suburban branch opened in 1953, with expansion continuing through to the 1980s. However, the company filed for bankruptcy in 1991. In its heyday during the 1950s-1960s, Berger's was a mecca for fine shopping, especially for its women's clothing. Generations of Buffalo women remembered it fondly as the place they went to buy their special gowns and accessories.

Condition

Very good vintage condition.

There is one replacement rhinestone that is different from the rest but it is hidden by the jacket. I don't know if the rhinestones are original to the suit but they look great!. In a couple of places there is a light pin head mark to indicate placement of the rhinestones which the rhinestones failed to cover as they were slightly misaligned. But really inconsequential as you have to examine closely to notice. The swag is pinned onto the lining of the jacket (see photo) don't know why. I would imagine it originally was between the lining and outer shell. Perhaps the swag was relocated. However, it can be sewn in permanently or removed completely if desired. If you want my seamstress to sew in, we can oblige.

Please note that these are vintage items that have been used and loved over the years, As such, they may display slight evidence of their age. Any notable flaws will be highlighted.

Postage
We make every effort to post your item within 1-3 days of payment. Should a circumstance arise where we are unable to post within this timeframe (eg we are away at a fair) we will contact you immediately. Please note that our postage charges are based on standard international and domestic air packages - all with tracking. If you want to upgrade to express postage or require insurance, please contact us prior to checkout and we will adjust the rates accordingly.

Availability
This item is within our selling stock. In the unlikely event that two buyers purchase this item concurrently, payment will be immediately refunded to the latter purchaser. We apologize in advance should this rare circumstance arise.

LayBys/Layaways

Alterations
Obviously, as these are one-off pieces, the fit may not be quite what you need. To this end, we also offer an alteration service by professional seamstresses. Please shoot us an email outlining what you want and we will quickly respond with a quote and timeframe. Costs are kept to a minimum for this service.
