Vicky Vaughn was the junior division of R & M Kaufmann, Illinois. The Kaufman brothers began making ladies dresses in 1922. They built their business by producing high quality but moderately priced dresses, undergarments and sleepwear. In the 1930’s, Kaufmann revolutionised the garment industry by adding their own novel embroidery, applique and cornelli trim, while other garment manufacturers continued to rely on New York trim manufacturers. The Kaufmann's were able to keep prices low by mass producing garments in their own factories. The motto was "Only the LOOK is expensive." Sales grew steadily through the use of full page advertisements in Seventeen, Mademoiselle, Life and Charm magazines, as well as the use of live television commercials The Kaufmann's also produced the Toni Todd and Lady Laura lines. The company was sold to Russ Togs in 1969. In 1988 the Kaufmann family bought the firm back from Russ Togs and continued operations into the 1990’s when it was sold to Global Clothing, Inc. With the love of the rag trade in the family blood for nearly a century, the Kaufmann's grandson was retained as executive helping a younger generation garment company thrive in an ever increasingly competitive worldwide market.
This vintage dress has been carefully looked after and is in very good condition for its age. The only blemish I could find is some slight yellowing in the lining that does not show through to the outside of the dress.
Shown with a crinoline, which is not included. Accessories not included unless noted. Some items may be pinned to the form for presentation purposes.
We are more than happy to answer all inquires about this dress and to negotiate a mutually agreeable lay-by arrangement if you so wish. If you are looking for something that you don't currently find in our shop - drop us a line, we would love to accommodate you with a special listing!
