Imperial Imports

In this instance, Imperial Imports Hong Kong refers to a vintage clothing brand internationally known for its hand-beaded cardigans, dresses and sweaters. The term British Crown Colony of Hong Kong, relates to its history under British rule. Its growing importance, after the British acquired it in the mid-19th century, was largely due to the Imperial Preference Policy that gave preferential tariffs on goods imported and exported within the British Empire. Although the term Made in Hong Kong was used from the 1960s onwards, it was mainly associated with mass-produced items. The label British Crown Colony of Hong Kong was retained for higher-quality products, usually handmade, until it was phased out in the early 1980s.
