* Early 1960s cream wool crepe wiggle dress
* Classic silhouette with a defined waist and straight skirt
* Bodice has a wide scooped neckline and short sleeves
* Shelf bust that is slightly puckered from the centre
• A decorative border of drop pearls and beads highlights the bust and neckline
* Centre self-fabric bow at the neckline
* Skirt is shaped to hug the figure
* Back plastic zipper
* Dress is fully lined
*Label reads Raoul Couture - Melbourne
Raoul Couture was a highly respected fashion house based in Flinders Lane, Melbourne from around 1955 until 1963. The head designer was Leonard Legge. All the garments from this label have been top quality and show an appreciation of fine fabrics – generally silk or wool, with embellishments. The label is one of the upper eschelons in Australian couture, sitting well respected amongst collectable contemporaries like Le Louvre, Hall Ludlow and Magg. Legge went on to work for another Australian high fashion label Prue Acton. The Brighton Historical Society in Victoria holds a small collection of Hartnell and Raoul Couture garments, including a Gown of the Year Award-winning dress donated by Ralph Samuel. Condition
Very good vintage condition.
No notable flaws that I can see, other than a few missing beads and the skirt was tacked up at the hem and is coming loose. The skirt can be dropped to its original length if desired.
