* Made by Walborg

Walborg Company was founded by Hilde Weinberg in New York City in the late 1940s. She designed purses that were handmade in Belgium, France, Italy, and West Germany. One of the rarest of the Walborg products is a figural handbag made in the shape of a poodle. The poodle came in two sizes: 14 inch and 9 inch versions and two colours, black or white. Poodles were a popular fashion accessory in the 1950s because of the influence of Parisienne fashions. These poodle purses are highly sought after by collectors today.

Comment

The petite purse is absolutely gorgeous. Whilst it presents beautifully it nevertheless displays normal wear for its age as it has been used. The only blemishes of note are that the pull tab on the zipper has broken in half, but still works, and the interior lining is discoloured from use. The rarity of the piece makes these minor issues insignificant overall.
