    Novelty Necklaces
As plastics became more accessible during the late 1930s and onwards and because they could be moulded into the most elaborate shapes, these materials became very popular in jewellery making. They were also colourful and relatively cheap to produce, as opposed to the use of semi-precious stones, an important factor during the Depression and the second World War periods. Designs became more naturalistic, moving away from the earlier geometric shapes and sparkle. Contemporary jewellery makers drew inspiration from the natural world – flowers, feathers, birds and fruits were all popular themes.

    Bakelite
The most expensive of the available plastics was bakelite. Bakelite jewellery featured in many of the USA's high-end department stores such as Bloomingdales, Saks, Lord & Taylor and Macy's.
The jewellery of this era is now highly collectible.

    Lilli Ann
This famous American label was registered in 1933 by Adolf Schuman. Fabrics were specially imported from France and Italy, many made expressly for Lilli Ann. These fabrics were bought from mainly small textile companies that were in dire financial straits after the war and in danger of closing. As a result, Schuman was credited with saving many of these from financial ruin and in official recognition for his services was awarded Medals of Honour from both France and Italy.  On the other hand, the Lilli Ann customer knew that their suits, coats and dresses were made of the highest quality, hand-loomed fabric. Lilli Ann was also recognised for its innovative designs and quality construction. The label received the Gold Medal in Fashion Design, America's highest award in fashion. Nowadays, there is very high demand for this label from collectors and fashionistas from around the world. It must be said that this label is one of my all-time favourites as many of my customers know...:)

Such a beautiful suit with iconic Art Deco decorations. This suit would have been described as in pristine condition if it wasn't for 2-3 very small pin head moth bites...shown in last photograph. I am certain that a talented seamstress could either repair or mask the minor damage by applying imagination and a little effort. Of course, one could simply wear as is...... nevertheless, I have substantially reduced the price of this collectable Lilli Ann suit.

    Comment

This is such a beautiful dress! It stands between two fashion eras... the neckline and trim are pure 30s whilst the fuller skirt is closer to the 40s. Put together, it makes for a real standout silhouette. The dress is in great condition. The voile is joined in two pieces on the collar along the salvaged edge but this is original to the dress and not a flaw. The black bow at the bodice is added but not fixed to the dress - it will accompany it if sold. The only issues I can see is some stitching unravelling at the waist for half inch ( approx 1cm ) but this is an easy fix and two tiny brown spots that get lost in the folds of the skirt at the bottom to the back. Small blemishes considering the age of the dress. These are shown in the last photograph.

Shown with a crinoline and velvet ribbon which are not included.

    Comment

This vintage coat is in great condition. Lovely colour and fabric and beautiful light-weight early version of a princess coat. Not as full as the later versions during the 50s, but it can take two crinolines petticoats as displayed in these photos. It also looks wonderful falling straight without flared skirt underneath...so versatile. In relation to condition, the coat has been worn but does not display any major defects. The only issue I can see is the bottom hole's stitching is unravelling and could be re-done. Apart from that, it presents beautifully. The back is really AMAZING and I have seen a few coats in my time..:)

The remainder of the suit is in excellent condition.

Lilli Ann was also recognised for its innovative designs and quality construction. The label received the Gold Medal in Fashion Design, America's highest award in fashion. Comment

This wonderful high-end Lilli Ann suit is in excellent condition with no damage, smells or flaws to note. These Lilli Ann suits are highly desirable and becoming increasingly difficult to source. The early label on this suit makes it even scarcer. Wonderful original condition, skirt zipper needs replacing and two buttons are loose. Other than that the presentation is superb.

    Malachite

Archeological evidence indicates that the mineral was originally mined and smelted to obtain copper some 3,000 years ago. Since then, it has been used as both an ornamental stone and gemstone.

In Ancient Egypt, the colour green was associated with resurrection as well as new life and fertility. They believed that the afterlife contained an eternal paradise which resembled their lives but with no pain or suffering, and referred to this place as the ‘Field of Malachite’.

Malachite was widely used during the 1930-1940s in jewellery and this is one such piece.

    Novelty Necklaces
As plastics became more accessible during the late 1930s and onwards and because they could be moulded into the most elaborate shapes, these materials became very popular in jewellery making. Another distinct advantage was that they were relatively cheap to produce as opposed to the use of glass and semi-precious stones, an important factor during the Depression and the second World War periods. Designs became more naturalistic, moving away from the earlier geometric shapes and sparkle. Contemporary jewellery makers drew inspiration from the natural world – flowers, feathers, birds and fruits were all popular themes.

    Comment

Can't say enough about this wonderful jacket. It is one of the best Lilli Ann jackets I have owned. I say one of the best because I had an identical one in black several years ago. It is in wonderful condition without any notable flaws. Very rare, desirable jacket. Team it with a black dress, skirt or jeans.

This unique coat boasts a very unusual design elements and is beautifully tailored. It is in great condition for its age. Although, has been used but does not appear to have any major issues, maybe buttons could be secured a little more.
