* Amazing late 1940s navy blue rayon dress
* Classic silhouette with cinched waist and gently draping skirt
* Short sleeved bodice with shirtfront opening and neckline
* Fastened at front to waist with self covered buttons
* Gently undulating skirt with darted pleats at front
* Front tie half belt to cinch in at waist
* Most amazing applique work to bodice and skirt front
* Back bodice features original fabric from which appliques were made
* Unlined, hand finished and raw seams, adhesive tape hem
* Side metal zipper
Condition
One of the loveliest applique dresses I've seen. The appliques are machined in place and the work is so precise it looks like trapunto work from underneath. A couple of things to note: first it has a missing button at top of placket virtually hidden when collar is open. A pinprick on one sleeve and a pulled thread on the other, both hardly noticeable. The hemline was shortened at some time and the person used self adhesive tape. Not seen when worn and can be easily hand sewn for added security, can also be lengthened if required. Other than those small issues the dress is in excellent condition overall, unique and eye catching. A truly special dress in every way. Obviously, as these are one- off pieces, the fit may not be quite what you need. To this end, we also offer an alteration service by professional seamstresses.
