Gianni Baldini was an Italian designer boutique fashion house, contemporary with Pucci. The label was sold worldwide, with the luxury department store chains, B. Altman & Co and Bonwit Teller distributing it throughout the United States. Baldini's special distinction in the fashion world lay in his fabrics. Indeed, his first foray into the commercial world was in designing and printing furnishing fabrics for use in interior design. He ventured into fashion in the 1950s selling beachwear and play clothes featuring his fabric designs from a small shop. When he presented a selection of his collections in Florence in 1956, he attracted buyers from all over the world, adding lingerie and sleepwear for his American concerns. When he moved to Milan in 1962, he expanded his range to include formal dresses, coats and suits. His label produced both haute-couture and designer fashion and he also collaborated with other couturiers, notably Yves St Laurent. During the 1970s, his prices started from $40 USD for bikinis up to $350 for his evening clothes - quite a hefty price in those days.

A beautiful example of the work of Gianni Baldini. The silk fabric is absolutely stunning and the silhouette is soft and flowing. A truly lovely dress.
