Hilary Radley is a women’s ready-to-wear brand known primarily for its colourful yet classic coats: from quilted jackets to car coats, capes and raincoats. The designer behind the eponymous label is originally from England, where she studied fashion at De Montfort University. In 1976, she went to live in New York City for several years, working as a freelance designer and finally moving to Montreal in 1983. Hilary Radley launched her first outerwear collection in 1986. From the very beginning, her creations combined high-end materials with exquisite tailoring. Miles Socha, the editor of Women’s Wear Daily, dubbed her the 'Queen of Coats.' In 1992, the company launched its first New York showroom, setting the stage for its rapid expansion into the American market. Hilary Radley has been recognised through several prestigious design awards including - Designer of the Decade for the 1990's by Elle Canada (2000), Woolmark's Design Excellence Award (1987, 1988, 1990), Concordia University's John H. Molson School of Business Leadership Award (2002), and the Best Designer and Best Outerwear Designer Awards from the Fashion Export Awards presented during Toronto Fashion Week (2004). Although still recognised for its quality outerwear, the company has branched into both women's and men's apparel and accessories - and remains just as sought-after today.
