Established in 1938, the Carlye Dress Corporation focused on designing fashion lines tailored exclusively for the younger woman. This hugely popular company grew to become one of the greatest junior wear fashion labels in the USA. It maintained its popularity right through to the early 1960s. Signature fashion elements for the Carlye brand were the prolific use of lace inserts and pin-tucking in their clothing designs, and their high quality construction techniques. The business was taken over by the clothing manufacturing giant Leslie Fay in the mid 1960s and subsequently merged into their existing lines.
Comment
This beautiful dress is extremely well made - the standard you come to expect from a Carlye label. It is also in excellent condition. On close inspection very small break in lace and some light tiny smudges on tails at back but very hard to spot and don't effect the presentation or wearability of the dress.
This dress was featured in the popular TV drama series "A Place to Call Home".
