Jerry Gilden was a maker of moderately-priced women’s ready-to-wear from the mid 1940s through to the 1960s. The company was one of the top five producers of women’s dresses in the United States. At the peak of production, the label was producing over a million garments a year.
Their in-house costume designer, Giselle, was responsible for designing the dresses and separates that made the Gilden name famous. After her death in 1952, Gilden took as his partners Sayde and Abe Weinberg, with Sayde becoming the designer of the Jerry Gilden lines. The firm ceased production in 1960. Because of their construction and styling, the label is keenly sought after by today's vintage fashion collectors.
Condition
This beautiful dress is in excellent vintage condition for its age with only two minor issues. It is missing the original belt and there is a very small rust spot and break on the back lower right hand size. (Refer to last photograph to see an image of the fault). As it is, it gets lost in the skirt folds but could be repaired by adding a small iron-on backing patch or darning to secure. Apart from that, the remainder of the dress is in wonderful condition - nevertheless the price has been adjusted to reflect this small issue. All in all, this is a really beautiful Summer dress by a renowned vintage fashion label. Shown with a crinoline and ribbon belt for presentation purposes and not included in the sale.
