Description

* Late 1940s commercially made oatmeal wool jacket

* Fabric is dotted with red and blue flecks

* Classic silhouette that widens from the bust and ends just below the hips

* Turnover rounded collar with single closure at neckline

* ¾ sleeves that end in faux cuffs at front with decorative gold buttons

* Inset scalloped pockets at front also with decorative gold buttons

* Back has a bib insert with piping at shoulders and has more wifth than the front

* Fully lined in cream satin

* Label is lost but union label remains

Alice Edwards apparel pops up only occasionally, but all those I've seen are of such a high standard that they must have been in direct competition in their day with the better-known Horrockes Fashions label. The fabric quality is excellent and the dresses have the feel and style of Horrockses. It appears that Alice Edwards had two lines: a daywear range labelled “An Alice Edward’s Italienne” (often featuring lovely glazed cotton fabrics) and “Alice Edward’s Goes Places” (cocktail and party dresses). Nowadays, the label is becoming increasingly sought-after and appreciated for its high quality, excellent tailoring and feminine silhouettes.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition.

No notable flaws that I can see - in wonderful condition for its age.

We now offer an alternate express delivery service via DHL for those of you who want your packages more expediently. This option is currently delivering packages within a seven-day timeframe from pick-up.

Postage
We make every effort to post your item within 1-3 days of payment. Should a circumstance arise where we are unable to post within this timeframe (eg we are away at a fair) we will contact you immediately. Please note that our postage charges are based on standard international and domestic air packages - all with tracking. If you want to upgrade to express postage or require insurance, please contact us prior to checkout and we will adjust the rates accordingly.

Availability
This item is within our selling stock. In the unlikely event that two buyers purchase this item concurrently, payment will be immediately refunded to the latter purchaser. We apologize in advance should this rare circumstance arise.

LayBys/Layaways

Alterations
Obviously, as these are one-off pieces, the fit may not be quite what you need. To this end, we also offer an alteration service by professional seamstresses. Please shoot us an email outlining what you want and we will quickly respond with a quote and timeframe. Costs are kept to a minimum for this service.
